CURTIN UNIVERSITY SYDNEY

Overview

Curtin University is Western Australia’s largest and most culturally diverse university with Australia’s third largest international student population.

Around 60,000 students from more than 130 countries study a Curtin degree, at locations including Perth, Margaret River, Kalgoorlie, Sydney, Malaysia and Singapore. Our cultural diversity adds a rich and valuable dimension to the campus atmosphere, preparing all graduates to live and work effectively in an increasingly global environment.

We offer a range of industry-aligned undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business, humanities, health, engineering and related sciences. We also have a long-standing focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education and culture, supported by our Centre for Aboriginal Studies.

Curtin is widely recognised for its practical research that is focused on solving timely, real-world problems. In recent years our research activity has grown significantly, driving our rapid rise up the international university rankings.

As a university that never settles, we will continue to develop existing partnerships and establish new ones in areas relevant to our research and teaching.

Undergraduate

Curtin University is Western Australia’s largest and most multicultural university, with more than 53,000 students.

Established in 1986, the university takes its name from the widely respected former Prime Minister of Australia, John Curtin, and embraces his philosophy to “look ever forward”, instilling a culture of innovation in its teaching and research.

In 2015 Curtin was ranked among the top 2 per cent of universities worldwide in the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Students joining Curtin’s campuses in Perth, Malaysia and Singapore can expect to become part of a forward thinking, international culture committed to sharing innovative ideas.

Curtin is Western Australia’s most preferred university for undergraduate study, with 45 per cent of the state’s undergraduates making Curtin their first preference in 2016. We collaborate with some of the largest companies in the world to stay at the forefront of innovation and equip our graduates with the knowledge, skills and future focus that employers want.

We offer undergraduate courses across a variety of disciplines, including:

  • Agriculture, environment and sustainability
  • Architecture and construction
  • The arts and creative industries
  • Business, management and law
  • Culture, language and Indigenous
  • Education
  • Engineering and mining
  • Health
  • IT and computing

There are many different pathways to a Curtin undergraduate course, even if the normal entry requirements have not been met. Depending on your circumstances and desired course, options may include on-campus enabling courses, bridging courses or portfolio entry.

Curtin also offers a variety of scholarships. Some are offered for academic achievement while others are designed to make university possible for students who face financial hardship.

As you progress to a postgraduate qualification from Curtin, you will develop the skills you need to advance your career or take a new direction. Curtin offers Western Australia’s largest range of industry-aligned postgraduate courses, producing graduates that are highly desired by employers.

Study options are highly flexible, with part-time and online study helping postgraduates to fit study around a busy lifestyle. In 2015, 71 per cent of postgraduate students at Curtin chose to study part-time.

For those who have been away from study for some time, we offer a range of services and facilities to make the transition back to study as smooth as possible. Students have access to on-campus career advice and counselling, academic support and healthcare facilities, not to mention a vibrant and inclusive campus community.
