Melbourne institute of Technology (MIT)

MIT is committed to providing a collaborative and active learning environment. It does so by focusing on teaching and learning that involves face-to-face interaction and engagement between students and staff. It fosters a culture of scholarship with academic integrity as well as continuous improvement in teaching pedagogy and curriculum development.

MIT’s goals include – ‘Empowerment and involvement of the staff, students and other stakeholders in all aspects of learning and teaching experience’, and ‘Employable, work-ready graduates who value life-long learning’. MIT’s Strategic Plan reinforces these goals and outlines strategies to achieve them. Through its statement of graduate attributes and its’ Teaching and Learning Plan, the Institute also makes reference to the mapping and embedding of generic skills into each unit of each course, in order to increase the awareness of students to the importance of generic skills in their careers post-graduation. The graduate attributes include the acquisition of critical and independent thought and learning throughout life. These generic skills form a crucial part of each unit’s assessment criteria. Additionally, through a specific segment of the Institute’s Scholarship and Research Plan, each academic staff member through their portfolio is required to demonstrate how they reinforce to students the importance of acquiring generic graduate attributes. It should be noted that as a predominantly teaching institution, the Scholarship and Research Plan covers both the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and the pursuit of research as separate but nevertheless closely linked items.

You don’t always need to do first year uni to get into second year uni.

If you spend eight months at MIT gaining a Diploma in Business or IT you could enter second-year of a relevant Bachelor degree the following year.

Research indicates that ATAR score or Year 12 results are not necessarily an indication of a student’s ability to complete a degree.  If ATAR score is your concern, choose one of our pathway programs. The program consists of eight units and is equivalent to the first-year of relevant Bachelor degrees at MIT and other Australian Universities. These programs nurture your potential and support those students who can be disadvantaged by ATAR score.

It’s never too late to learn. Whether you are starting a new career, looking for a career advancement, or changing a career, it’s important to clarify what your main interests are. A career that complements those interests could have a greater possibility for successful outcome.

We offer a range of programs in Business, Accounting, Management, Marketing, Information Technology, Computer Networking, and Telecommunications Engineering which range from undergraduate (University pathway diploma and Bachelor) to post graduate degrees.

If you are applying under mature-age entry scheme, you may be admitted if you are able to demonstrate a range of attributes such as personal motivation, maturity and work experience or previous study. Each application is assessed on a case by case basis. You are required to provide a personal statement outlining your interest, motivation and reasons for selecting the course including details of educational and any employment background (where applicable).
