Murdoch University
Overview
When Murdoch was founded in 1975, we had 510 students and were the acknowledged choice of ‘free-thinkers’. Today, we are a lot bigger – and it’s the direct result of that same freethinking choice made by more than 22,000 current students.
Quintessentially Australian with far-reaching influence, our main campus is one of the largest in Australia and our growing international footprint is supported by campuses in Singapore and Dubai.
Murdoch graduates are sought after by business and industry as a result of the high-quality teaching, leading-edge research and relevant real-world learning, which combine to shape the holistic Murdoch student experience and create distinctive competitive advantage.
Our free thinking ethos resonates in our genuinely flexible approach to learning – as one of our students, you are supported to choose your own way, make your own mark and shape your own future – to explore, discover and benefit from more pathways than ever to quality education.
Murdoch remains one of the most inclusive universities in the country. For over 40 years, we have nurtured free thinkers, defining our own path to success and building a global family of connected influencers.
We currently have more than 22,000 students and 2,000 staff working together, finding solutions to the world’s biggest challenges. Courses are offered at campuses in Murdoch and Mandurah as well as study centres in Singapore and Dubai. Our students are enrolled in over 200 undergraduate courses across a range of disciplines including Arts, Business, Education, Engineering, Law, Nursing and Science.
Murdoch will continue to be a comprehensive research-focused university, working towards finding solutions to the world’s biggest challenges. Working together to embrace positive change and diversity, Murdoch staff and students define their own path to success.
Achievement of this intent will be sustained by:
- Ensuring students can study flexible courses and multidisciplinary degree combinations in a supportive and engaging learning environment
- Continuing to apply world-class research to real-world problems, backed by our commitment to positive change
- Teaching students practical skills and the opportunity to gain real-world experience whilst studying
- Continuing to build the quality and reputation of the University
Murdoch is also recognised as one of Australia’s leading research institutions. Our researchers engage with significant social and scientific challenges of our time that include climate change, food security and production, infectious diseases, mental health, politics and governance – past and present. Additionally, we have a reputation for excellence in teaching, fuelled by our desire to embrace diversity, challenge convention and celebrate difference.

DEPARTMENTS AT MURDOCH UNIVERSITY
“Hi, My name is Syed Hannan and I’m studying Bachelor of Commerce at Murdoch University Perth. Perth is such a good city to live. It’s full of life, places, parks and especially beaches. Being from Pakistan, the thing I like most about Perth is its moderate weather. It’s never too hot nor too cold, so for me it was very easy to get used to it. One more admirable thing about Perth is the growth opportunities it provides. It was easy to find a job while studying and employment opportunities are generously available.
At Murdoch University, I’m having the experience of my life. The lecturers, tutors and unit co-ordinators are very co-operative and always willing to assist you with your studies in every possible way. The facilities at university are of very high calibre and they are loaded with state of art equipment.
Murdoch Bachelors’ are very highly regarded and employment ratio is among the highest in the entire state. I’m very glad I choose Murdoch University for my Bachelors’ degree and it was worth it.”
