Drop into a Tim’s to talk to the locals about just about any topic, and you’ll come away with enough to write an award-winning short story or intriguing novel.

You’ll hear how the city has a large and vibrant Italian contingent, but don’t overlook the other cultural influences from European countries like Finland and Portugal, plus the growing number of Indian and Argentinian foreign nationals arriving to work at Essar Steel and Tenaris.

We have all the amenities and city-life attractions, and the most awe-inspiring scenic views and adventure recreation in the province. The breath-taking views found immediately north, east and west of town on the Great Lakes is what most people remember most about Sault Ste. Marie and area. With a large number of public beaches on beautiful pristine lakes that can be accessed for free, Sault Ste. Marie often has a lasting impact on those who travel this way, and sometimes those who have camped here in their youth find their way back here to study and work because of the stunning views found in nature.

If you meet all the requirements for admission to your preferred program at Sault College program but still require the English language proficiency, you may be conditionally admitted into your program of choice; upon successful completion of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. The conditional admission will also permit students to apply for their Study Permit to Canada through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

Through the Sault College – Northland EAP program students are provided with small classes and the necessary English instruction to begin post-secondary studies. EAP offers:

• Report writing
• Oral presentations

Support Services

As an EAP student, you will have access to Sault College amenities, services, and health insurance. You will also have the option of homestay accommodations (with a local family), on-campus residence, or off-campus housing; Sault College will also assist you with making housing arrangements. Pre-departure planning, orientation, and activities are also included in your Sault College – Northland EAP experience.

Study Time

Students are given a placement test upon arrival to determine the starting level of English. Generally, each level is one semester (14 weeks). Level 7 (CLB700) is required to enter the College program. Most students entering EAP may only require 1 or 2 semesters of EAP to meet the admission requirement; however, the duration of EAP will depend upon the student’s proficiency.

Once we receive your application and transcripts we shall process your application and email you an offer of admission!

Once you receive your offer of admission, follow the instructions in the package to accept a place here at Sault College!

You are encouraged to apply by February 1st for a September start, as popular programs fill up quickly. By applying by February 1st you have a higher chance of getting a seat in your preferred program and avoid being placed on a wait list or missing out on a seat altogether.

If your application is in before May 1st, you are automatically entered for 1 of 3 Academic scholarships worth $2500 (CAD) that, if successful, will be applied to the cost of your tuition.

Important
It can take anywhere from 3-9 months for a study permit to be processed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. So send in your application as soon as you receive your offer of admission letter and confirmation of enrolment. Go to Visa Offices.

To be accepted to study full-time at the College, the equivalent of a Ontario Secondary School Diploma (see below) at the College preparation level or higher is needed. Some programs require further studies.
